American Pie served at Beeghly

Don McLean might not exactly be a prime example of what rock ‘n’ roll is, but he wrote the quintessential song remembering the loss of Buddy Holly (the other victims of the crash aren’t referenced) with November 1971’s “American Pie”. The song went to No. 1 for four weeks in 1972 and fueled a career that continues to this day. On January 21, 1973, McLean played Youngstown State University’s Beeghly Center in support of his self-titled follow-up album to American Pie.
